JASPER

Jasper is owned and loved to bits by Naomi & Paul Bygrave.  Here is his story:

Jasper was found as a stray in May 2002.  He was a very loving and gentle dog and as soon as we saw him we knew he was the dog for us.  I had two young children aged 3 and 1 and we had recently lost our first staff bitch.  He was 5 years old and thin, weighing about 13 kilos and standing at 17" to the shoulder.  He settled in right away and showed his potential in therapy work from day one.

When we go visiting the family he makes himself comfortable either sat by my 90 year old grandad or he normally ends up sleeping on the sofa next to my grandad. Jasper is the only one who can get my grandad up out of bed and dressed.  My father, who doesn't usually like dogs, asks if Jasper can go on holiday when the children go down because they love so much and he goes everywhere with them.

After looking at some information on this site and on the internet I thought that maybe we should look into him becoming a Pets As Therapy dog.  In March 2004 we were assessed and on 11th June 2004 we received our certificate of membership.  We are all so proud of him and we are hoping that in the next 12 months to have our other rescued staffy, Tammy, assessed to become a PAT dog.

We have recently contacted the local schools in the area and are hoping to help at our local special needs school during the summer holidays as they run a summer school and they have specifically asked for a PAT dog.

'Unfortunately Tammy was PTS on Friday 10th September 2004.  She had mastocytoma (Mast Cell Tumour).'
