BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION

Last night before going to bed I went in (as usual) to check on Francesca. Dani sleeps with her every night and Max likes to lie with them for a while before coming into my bedroom where he sleeps.
I took a good look at the peaceful scene and couldn't resist taking a couple of photos. The dogs woke up but Francesca was oblivious.
I can't stop thinking about the situation in Germany and the effect it is already having throughout Europe. My heart goes out to everyone already affected.
Francesca got extremely upset when she saw the photo of Gwendolyn Schweizer in a muzzle. I tried very hard to explain the situation (given I can't really understand how on earth it came this far). She can't quite grasp why Gwendolyn would have to wear a muzzle in Germany or France when she had done nothing wrong and had never bitten a person or another dog. Child's logic ? I think not.
I have to admit that this whole thing has depressed me and worried me very much. Francesca loves both of our dogs with a passion. They are her friends and her play-mates. She has a lot of fun playing with them and she also gets a great deal of comfort from them. She really does have an active interest in their day to day lives and likes to feed them, come on their walks and she even lifts and cleans their mess from the yard.
Max and Dani are a huge part of our lives.
I cannot imagine being in the position that those German dog-owners are in now. I cannot imagine being scared for my dogs' and even my family's safety. I would never have thought this would happen in a supposedly civilised Western country in this day and age. It beggars belief.
